About Elements of the Philosophy of Right
Elements of the Philosophy of Right by Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, originally Grundlinien der Philosophie des Rechts, was the last book Hegel published during his lifetime. Beginning with the free will, it argues that freedom is not only a matter of private choice but takes objective form in the institutions, relationships and rules of a shared life.
The main argument moves through three stages: Abstract Right, covering property, contract and wrong; Morality, treating intention, responsibility and conscience; and Ethical Life, examining the family, civil society and the state. This structure allows the reader to follow the connections between individual and society, freedom and law, and personal morality and political order.
