Robin Shilp Sharma, born in Uganda in 1964, is a Canadian author, leadership speaker and former litigation lawyer. His family of Indian origin moved first to Winnipeg and later to Cape Breton in eastern Canada. His father, a book-loving family physician, and his mother, a schoolteacher, both helped shape his reading habits and the beginnings of his publishing career. His younger brother, Sanjay, is an eye surgeon.
Sharma earned a BSc in 1985, an LLB in 1988 and an LLM in 1990 from Dalhousie University before working as a litigation lawyer. He financed his first book, MegaLiving, himself at a copy shop; his mother edited it and his father helped sell copies from the trunk of a car. His second book, The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari, was also initially self-published before former HarperCollins president Ed Carson discovered it in a bookstore.
After that book’s success, Sharma left legal practice and made writing, leadership education and speaking his principal work. His books, from The 5 AM Club to The Everyday Hero Manifesto and The Wealth Money Can’t Buy, emphasise habits, focus, service and personal mastery. He hosts the Daily Mastery podcast and founded the Robin Sharma Foundation for Children. Sharma is a divorced father of two, Colby and Bianca, and remains living and professionally active.
