Mel Thompson is an English writer, editor and educator whose accessible books connect philosophy, religion and ethics with ordinary choices about identity, belief and belonging. Born in 1946 and educated at King’s College London, he first served as an Anglican priest, then moved into education, examining, publishing and a four-decade writing career. His best-known introductory books include Teach Yourself Philosophy, later comprehensively revised as Philosophy for Life, Ethics for Life and The Philosopher’s Beach Book.
His 2009 book Me asks how memory, embodiment, relationships and choice produce a continuing sense of self. Its established Persian edition is «من», translated by Sona Anzabi-Nejad and edited by Khashayar Deihimi for Goman. Thompson remains professionally active: his first-party website records the publication of Can Atheism Rescue God? in 2025. No openly licensed, identity-safe portrait was found; Commons files under the same name depict an unrelated American basketball player and are deliberately excluded.
