Raz-e Mana is an interview-based biography developed from several months of extensive conversations with Mohammad-Reza Shajarian in 1996. Rather than reconstructing his life through distant commentary, the book allows Shajarian to speak about his childhood in Mashhad, Quranic recitation, vocal training, entry into radio, professional career and artistic decisions.

The conversations explore the place of poetry in Persian singing, the radif, tradition and innovation, vocal practice, the teacher–student relationship and the artist’s social responsibility. Shajarian’s career is set beside developments in modern Iranian music and collaborations with figures including Mohammad-Reza Lotfi, Parviz Meshkatian and Hossein Alizadeh, making the book both a biography and a source on Iranian cultural and classical-music history.

In a 2003 statement, Shajarian identified Raz-e Mana as the book published in his name that he personally approved. This Gaman Publishing edition is illustrated and includes an index.
