«شوهر آهو خانم» نخستین رمان علی محمد افغانی (Ali Mohammad Afghani) و یکی از آثار مهم رئالیسم اجتماعی در ادبیات معاصر فارسی است. افغانی آن را در سالهای زندان نوشت و پس از آزادی، نخستین چاپ را در ۱۳۴۰ با هزینه شخصی منتشر کرد. نسخه حاضر چاپ انتشارات نگاه با شابک 9789643511104 است.
داستان از زمستان ۱۳۱۳ در کرمانشاه آغاز میشود. سیدمیران سرابی، نانوا و رئیس صنف نانوایان، با همسرش آهو و چهار فرزندشان زندگی نسبتاً باثباتی دارد. ورود هما، زنی جوان با گذشتهای دشوار، سیدمیران را به رابطه و ازدواجی تازه میکشاند؛ تصمیمی که آرامآرام خانه، اعتبار اجتماعی و اقتصاد خانواده را فرسوده میکند.
رمان فقط ماجرای رقابت دو زن نیست. با جزئیات فراوان از خانه، بازار، نانوایی، همسایهها و مناسبات طبقاتی، فشار چندهمسری و محدودیتهای حقوقی و اقتصادی زنان را در جامعه مردسالار نشان میدهد. آهو میان حفظ خانواده و دفاع از شأن خود گرفتار است، هما نیز شخصیتی یکبعدی نیست و سیدمیران در فاصله میل، آبرو و مسئولیت فرو میریزد. گستردگی شخصیتپردازی و تصویر دقیق زندگی شهری، کتاب را به سندی ادبی از کرمانشاه آن دوره تبدیل کرده است.

About Madam Ahou’s Husband
Madam Ahou’s Husband is the first novel by Ali Mohammad Afghani and a major work of social realism in modern Persian fiction. Afghani wrote it during years of imprisonment and self-published the first edition in 1961 after his release. This copy is the Negah edition under ISBN 9789643511104.
The story begins in Kermanshah in the winter of 1934–35. Seyyed Miran Sarabi, a baker and head of the local bakers’ guild, lives a relatively stable life with his wife Ahou and their four children. The arrival of Homa, a young woman with a difficult past, draws Miran into a new relationship and marriage that gradually erodes the household, his public standing and the family’s finances.
The novel is more than a rivalry between two women. Through extensive detail about the home, bazaar, bakery, neighbours and class relations, it examines polygamy and the legal and economic constraints placed on women in a patriarchal society. Ahou is caught between preserving her family and defending her dignity; Homa is not reduced to a single trait; and Miran collapses between desire, reputation and responsibility. Its broad characterisation and precise portrait of urban life make the book a literary record of its period.
