Madar-e Sefr Darajeh, also identified in English as The Zero Degree Orbit, is a three-volume Persian novel by Ahmad Mahmoud. It is an original Persian work with no translator. First published in Iranian year 1372 (1993), this Moein edition carries ISBN 9789645643186.
Set in southern Iran during the years leading to the 1979 Revolution, the novel follows a poor and turbulent family. Baran works in a barber shop and loves Maedeh, while his personal life becomes entangled with family conflict, class inequality and the growing political unrest around him.
By bringing ordinary residents together with people from competing social and political currents, Mahmoud creates a many-voiced portrait of a society approaching transformation. The novel concerns the path to revolution rather than the Iran–Iraq War, and Baran is its central figure. This edition is a three-volume, 1,782-page vaziri-format paperback set.
