«بینوایان (جلد اول، ژان والژان)» جلد نخستِ کامل رمان Les Misérables است؛ نه بازنویسی کوتاه. داستان با آزادی ژان والژان پس از نوزده سال زندان آغاز می‌شود. بخشش اسقف میریل زندگی او را تغییر می‌دهد؛ والژان هویتی تازه می‌سازد، سرپرستی کوزت را می‌پذیرد و هم‌زمان از تعقیب بی‌امان بازرس ژاور می‌گریزد.

ویکتور هوگو (Victor Hugo) از سرگذشت والژان برای کاوش فقر، عدالت، قانون، شفقت و امکان دگرگونی اخلاقی انسان استفاده می‌کند. این جلد اول از نسخه‌ی دو جلدی نشر افق، با ترجمه‌ی محسن سلیمانی (Mohsen Soleimani) و شابک مستقل خود منتشر شده است.

Victor Hugo uses Valjean’s life to explore poverty, justice, law, compassion, and the possibility of moral transformation. This first volume of Ofoq’s complete two-volume Persian edition is translated by Mohsen Soleimani and carries its own ISBN.
