بیچارگان نخستین رمان فئودور داستایفسکی (Fyodor Dostoevsky) است که در سال ۱۸۴۶ منتشر شد. ترجمهٔ این نسخه را آرزو آشتیجو (Arezoo Ashti-Joo) انجام داده و چشمه آن را منتشر کرده است.
رمان از نامههایی شکل میگیرد که ماکار دووشکین، کارمند دونپایهای در سنپترزبورگ، و واروارا دوبروسلووا، دختر جوانی که در نزدیکی او زندگی میکند، برای یکدیگر مینویسند. نامهها از هزینهٔ خانه، کار، بیماری و خاطرات شخصی آغاز میشوند و به تصویری از فقر، وابستگی و تلاش برای حفظ حرمت انسانی میرسند.
داستایفسکی با کنار هم گذاشتن دو صدا نشان میدهد چگونه جامعهٔ طبقاتی بر زبان، انتخاب و عزت نفس آدمها اثر میگذارد. قالب نامهنگارانه، فاصله میان آنچه شخصیتها میگویند و آنچه خواننده از زندگیشان درمییابد را به یکی از قوتهای رمان تبدیل میکند.

Poor Folk
Poor Folk, first published in 1846, was the debut novel of Fyodor Dostoevsky. This Persian edition was translated by Arezoo Ashti-Joo and published by Cheshmeh.
The novel unfolds through letters exchanged by Makar Devushkin, a poorly paid clerk in Saint Petersburg, and Varvara Dobroselova, a young woman living nearby. Their correspondence moves from rent, work, illness, and personal memories toward a larger portrait of poverty, dependence, and the struggle to preserve human dignity.
By placing two voices side by side, Dostoevsky shows how class and material insecurity shape language, choice, and self-respect. The epistolary form makes the distance between what the characters say and what readers infer from their lives one of the novel’s enduring strengths.
