He recalls a difficult childhood after the Korean War, the creation of a trading company and its international expansion, encouraging young readers to recognise opportunity in markets and everyday problems.

First published in 1989, the book reflects Kim’s perspective during Daewoo’s rapid rise. Because the group’s later history became bound up with the Asian financial crisis and its collapse at the end of the 1990s, the work can be read both as motivational guidance and as a historical document of its business culture, not as a guaranteed formula for success.
