About Nun-e Neveshtan
Nun-e Neveshtan gathers the personal and literary journals of Mahmoud Dowlatabadi from 1980 to 1995. It is neither a novel nor a retrospective autobiography reshaped into one smooth story. Dowlatabadi recorded these occasional writings at different moments and preserved their changing moods and viewpoints.
The reader encounters a writer at work: absorbed in the difficult labour of writing and the fate of books such as Kelidar and The Bygone Days of Old Folks, worried about family and livelihood, or responding to censorship, publishing disputes, professional jealousy and what he saw as an erosion of public ethics. Hope, isolation, discouragement and the stubborn decision to continue remain side by side.
