Fal (Divination) is a Persian romance novel by Monir Mehrizi Moghaddam. Its central relationship begins as an arrangement resembling a performance for other people, complete with displays of affection that are not initially genuine. The path does not unfold as the characters expect: apparent companionship gradually becomes real understanding, and each person must learn the other’s difficulties, silences, anger and ways of expressing love.
The title points to the unpredictability of this journey. The characters’ choices and efforts produce an outcome beyond their original plan. Rather than presenting love as instantaneous, the novel follows the work of adjustment and recognition through which a performed relationship becomes a genuine partnership.
