Morteza Eftekhari was an Iranian architect, translator, writer and serious collector of classical music. After a difficult childhood, he completed an architecture degree at the University of Tehran and worked for Iran’s housing organisation. His cultural influence extended beyond his Persian work on Kafka’s Letters to Felice: he built a large archive of records, tapes and compact discs, copied important recordings for others, and patiently introduced younger listeners to classical music. Filmmaker Bahman Motamedian’s detailed memorial portrays him as an informal, generous teacher. Eftekhari had two daughters from his first marriage who studied at the Paris Conservatoire and later remarried. Oral cancer, unsuccessful surgery and radiotherapy, and subsequent metastasis made the final months of his life extremely painful. The reviewed reliable sources do not establish exact birth and death dates, and no clearly licensed portrait was found, so this profile does not invent either.
