دو قرن سکوت نوشته عبدالحسین زرینکوب (Abdolhossein Zarrinkoub) روایتی تحلیلی از تاریخ ایران در دو سده نخست پس از فروپاشی دولت ساسانی است؛ از فتح ایران به دست سپاه عرب و استقرار خلافت تا شکلگیری دولت طاهریان.
کتاب به دگرگونیهای سیاسی و اجتماعی، جایگاه ایرانیان در ساختار خلافت، قیامها و مقاومتها و چهرههایی چون ابومسلم، مقنع، بابک، مازیار و افشین میپردازد. عنوان اثر به دورهای اشاره دارد که نویسنده آن را زمان خاموشی و گسست در بیان مستقل فرهنگی و سیاسی ایران میداند، هرچند متن همزمان نشانههای تداوم و بازسازی هویت ایرانی را دنبال میکند.
نخستین نسخه کتاب در سال ۱۳۳۰ منتشر شد. زرینکوب پس از چند سال بازنگری منابع، نسخه گسترشیافته و تجدیدنظرشده را در سال ۱۳۳۶ منتشر کرد و درباره برخی داوریهای جوانی خود توضیح داد. به همین دلیل بهتر است اثر هم بهعنوان کتابی مهم در تاریخنگاری معاصر ایران و هم بهعنوان تفسیری اثرگذار و قابل نقد خوانده شود.

About Two Centuries of Silence
Two Centuries of Silence by Abdolhossein Zarrinkoub (عبدالحسین زرینکوب) is an analytical account of Iranian history during the first two centuries after the fall of the Sasanian Empire, from the Arab conquest and the establishment of the caliphate to the rise of the Tahirid dynasty.
The book examines political and social transformation, the place of Iranians within the caliphate, revolts and resistance, and figures including Abu Muslim, al-Muqanna, Babak, Mazyar and Afshin. Its title refers to a period the author interprets as a rupture in Iran’s independent cultural and political expression, while the narrative also traces the continuity and reconstruction of Iranian identity.
The first version appeared in 1951. After several years of reviewing his sources, Zarrinkoub published an expanded and revised edition in 1957 and addressed some of the judgements he had made as a younger writer. The work is therefore valuable both as an influential modern Iranian history and as an interpretation open to critical reading.
