«منگی» رمانی کوتاه از ژوئل اگلوف است؛ روایتی با طنز سیاه دربارهٔ مردی که همراه دوستش بورتش در کشتارگاهی نزدیک فرودگاه و محل دفن زباله کار می‌کند. او با مادربزرگش در خانه‌ای فرسوده زندگی می‌کند و خشونت، بوی نامطبوع، خطر و بی‌پولی را با چنان خونسردی‌ای تعریف می‌کند که مرز میان خنده و هراس به‌تدریج از بین می‌رود.
اگلوف به‌جای قهرمان‌سازی، زندگی آدم‌هایی را نشان می‌دهد که برای ادامه‌دادن ناچارند وضعیت نامعقول اطرافشان را عادی فرض کنند. زبان فشرده، صحنه‌های تصویری و شوخی‌های تلخ، رمان را به اثری دربارهٔ کار فرساینده، فقر، تنهایی و سازگاری انسان تبدیل می‌کنند؛ بدون آنکه متن به موعظه یا شرح اجتماعی مستقیم فروکاسته شود.
عنوان اصلی اثر L’Étourdissement است. نسخهٔ فرانسوی در ژانویهٔ ۲۰۰۵ توسط بوشه-شاستل منتشر شد و همان سال جایزهٔ معتبر Prix du Livre Inter را گرفت. عنوان تثبیت‌شدهٔ ترجمهٔ اصغر نوری در بازار ایران «منگی» است. محمد طلوعی ویراستار چاپ فارسی است.

About Mangi
Mangi is the established Persian title of Joël Egloff’s short novel L’Étourdissement. Its unnamed narrator works with his friend Bortch in a slaughterhouse near an airport and a landfill. He lives with his grandmother in a deteriorating house and reports danger, foul air, exhaustion and poverty with such composure that comedy and unease become inseparable.
Rather than turning its characters into symbols, the novel follows people who survive by treating an absurd environment as ordinary. Egloff’s compressed prose, visual scenes and dry humour make the book an incisive account of alienating work, poverty, loneliness and human adaptation without reducing the story to a social lecture.
The French edition was published by Buchet-Chastel in January 2005 and won the 2005 Prix du Livre Inter. This Persian edition was translated by Asghar Nouri and edited by Mohammad Tolouei.
