«منطقالطیر» شاهکار روایی عطار نیشابوری و یکی از مهمترین منظومههای عرفانی زبان فارسی است. پرندگان جهان برای یافتن پادشاهی شایسته گرد هم میآیند و هدهد آنان را به جستوجوی سیمرغ فرا میخواند. هر پرنده با ترس، دلبستگی یا عذری انسانی از راه سر باز میزند؛ هدهد نیز با حکایتهایی تودرتو، از جمله داستان بلند شیخ صنعان، آنان را برای عبور از راهی دشوار آماده میکند.
سالکان از هفت وادی طلب، عشق، معرفت، استغنا، توحید، حیرت و فقر و فنا میگذرند. از آن جمع بزرگ فقط سی مرغ به مقصد میرسند و پایان منظومه با پیوند زبانی «سی مرغ» و «سیمرغ»، جستوجوی حقیقت را به تجربهای از خودشناسی و دگرگونی بدل میکند. قدرت کتاب فقط در نتیجهٔ مشهور آن نیست؛ گفتوگوهای پرندگان، ضرباهنگ روایت، طنز، حکایتهای اخلاقی و تصویرهای درخشان، پرسشهای عرفانی را به تجربهای داستانی و زنده تبدیل کردهاند.
این نسخه جلد نخست «مجموعه آثار عطار» در انتشارات سخن است و با مقدمه، تصحیح و تعلیقات محمدرضا شفیعی کدکنی منتشر شده است. نقش شفیعی کدکنی در این کتاب «مصحح، مقدمهنویس و تعلیقهنویس» است، نه مترجم و نه نویسندهٔ متن اصلی. او با مقابلهٔ نسخهها، بررسی زبان و سبک عطار و افزودن یادداشتهای توضیحی، متنی پژوهشی برای خوانندهٔ جدی شعر کلاسیک فراهم کرده است.

About Mantiq al-Tayr
Mantiq al-Tayr, widely known in English as The Conference of the Birds, is the narrative masterpiece of Attar of Nishapur and one of the central mystical poems in Persian literature. The birds of the world assemble in search of a worthy sovereign, and the hoopoe urges them to seek the Simorgh. Each bird offers an excuse shaped by a recognisably human fear or attachment; the hoopoe answers with interwoven tales, including the extended story of Sheikh San’an, and prepares the company for a demanding journey.
The travellers cross the seven valleys of Quest, Love, Knowledge, Detachment, Unity, Bewilderment, and Poverty and Annihilation. Only thirty birds reach the destination. The poem’s celebrated wordplay between “thirty birds” and “Simorgh” turns their search for an external king into an experience of self-knowledge and transformation. The work’s force, however, lies in more than its ending: the birds’ debates, rhythmic storytelling, humour, moral anecdotes and vivid images make its spiritual questions immediate and dramatically alive.
This book is volume one of Sokhan Publishing’s collected works of Attar. It contains the introduction, critically established text and annotations of Mohammad-Reza Shafi’i Kadkani. His role is editor, introducer and annotator—not translator and not author of Attar’s poem. By comparing manuscripts, examining Attar’s language and style, and supplying explanatory notes, he prepared a scholarly edition for serious readers of classical Persian poetry.
