The first half of this unforgettable novel is set in 11th-century Iran and focuses on the life of the great Persian scholar, philosopher, and poet Omar Khayyam. It artistically narrates the creation of Khayyam’s masterpiece, the Rubaiyat, his interactions with historical figures such as Khawaja Nizam al-Mulk and Hassan-i Sabbah, and his romantic relationship with a poetess, all within the context of the Seljuk Empire. The second half follows an American man named Benjamin in his quest to obtain the original manuscript of the Rubaiyat.
