شوهرآهو خانم نخستین اثرعلی محمد افغانی است که وی طی سال‌های 1333 تا 1338 در زندان آن را نوشت. افغانی بعد از آزادی با هزینه ی شخصی خود اقدام به چاپ آن کرد و در همان سال جایزه ی بهترین کتاب سال را از آن خود کرد. اثر به طور کلی به موقعیت و جایگاه زنان طی سال های 1313 می‌پردازد. این اثر را می‌توان نخستین اثر فمنیستی ادبیات ایران به حساب آورد. از مشخصه های نثر این کتاب تصویر سازی و شخصیت پردازی همراه با جزییات دقیق است. شوهر آهو خانم داستان زنی سنتی و سربراه و منکوب جامعه ی مرد سالار است که موقعیتش در خانه با آمدن زنی سرکش و مدرنتر تهدید می‌شود. کتاب با قدرتی تمام واقعیت هایی را که زنان لایه های پایین جامعه با آن زندگی می‌کنند را تصویر می‌کند و همچنین نکوهشی است نسبت به آئین چند همسری. شخصیت پردازی ظریف آن، فضاسازی دقیق و قلم قدرتمند علی محمد افغانی شوهرآهو خانم را به یکی از محبوب ترین کتاب های معاصر ادبیات فارسی تبدیل کرده است

Shohar-e Ahoo Khanom is the first work by Ali-Mohammad Afghani, written while he was in prison between the years 1333 and 1338 (Iranian calendar). After his release, Afghani published the novel at his own expense, and in the same year it won the award for Best Book of the Year. Overall, the work addresses the status and position of women around the year 1313. It can be regarded as the first feminist literary work in Iranian literature. Among the distinctive features of the book’s prose are vivid imagery and detailed characterization.

Shohar-e Ahoo Khanom tells the story of a traditional, obedient woman crushed under a patriarchal society, whose position in the household is threatened by the arrival of a rebellious and more modern woman.
