یونگ بحث را از نسبت فرد با جامعهٔ تودهای و دولت آغاز میکند. به نظر او، وقتی انسان فقط بهصورت عددی در آمار، عضوی از جمع یا پیرو یک ایدئولوژی دیده شود، فردیت و مسئولیت اخلاقیاش بهآسانی رنگ میبازد. مقاومت در برابر فشار جمعی با شعار یا اطلاعات بیرونی ممکن نمیشود؛ فرد باید بخشهای ناشناختهٔ روان خود را نیز ببیند.

About The Undiscovered Self
ضمیر پنهان (نفس نامکشوف) is the established Persian title of Carl Gustav Jung’s essay Gegenwart und Zukunft. The German text first appeared in 1957, and the English translation by R. F. C. Hull, The Undiscovered Self, was published in 1958. This Persian edition is translated by Abolghasem Esmailpour.
Jung begins with the relationship between the individual, mass society and the state. When a person is treated only as a statistic, a member of a group or a follower of an ideology, individuality and moral responsibility can easily disappear. Resisting collective pressure requires more than slogans or external information: the individual must also recognise the unknown regions of the psyche.
Self-knowledge here is not the construction of a flattering self-image. Jung insists on confronting the unconscious, the shadow and every person’s capacity for both good and evil.
