طغیان رود موند راه بازگشت دکتر را میبندد و مأموریت اداری به سفری وهمآمیز بدل میشود. طبیعت، دریا، رودخانه، هواپیما و کامیونها در روایت حضوری شبیه شخصیت پیدا میکنند و نگاه مطمئن و قضاوتگر این غریبه آرامآرام در برابر شیوه زندگی مردم محلی فرومیریزد. تغییر او از پژوهشگری بیقرار به کسی که جذب دریا و ماهیگیری میشود، هسته استحاله روانی اثر را میسازد.

About Afiatgah
Afiatgah is a screenplay by Gholam-Hossein Saedi, written in 1978 and returning to the southern Iranian setting and spirit-possession culture that recur in his work. Afiatgah is used here as a transparent romanisation of the Persian title, not as an invented English translation. Its central figure, Dr Jamshid Tehrani, is a fifty-year-old sociologist sent by a vaguely defined office to coastal villages for a grandly named “synthetic standardisation integration” research project.
When the Mond River floods, the doctor’s route home is cut off and his bureaucratic assignment becomes an uncanny journey. Nature, sea, river, aeroplane and trucks acquire an almost human presence, while the outsider’s confident, judgmental gaze gradually collapses before local ways of life. His change from an impatient researcher into someone drawn to the sea and fishing forms the work’s psychological transformation.
Saedi combines black humour about bureaucratic language, the magical atmosphere of the south and psychological observation to question the distance between an observer and the people turned into research subjects.
