«ناخوشایندی‌های فرهنگ (تمدن و ناخرسندی‌های آن)» ترجمهٔ فارسی رسالهٔ «Das Unbehagen in der Kultur» اثر زیگموند فروید (Sigmund Freud) با برگردان امید مهرگان (Omid Mehrgan) است. فروید متن را در ۱۹۲۹ نوشت و در ۱۹۳۰ منتشر کرد؛ اثری از دورهٔ پایانی زندگی او که میان روانکاوی فردی و نظریهٔ اجتماعی پل می‌زند. بحث با پرسش از احساس دینی یا «احساس اقیانوسی» آغاز می‌شود و سپس به مسئلهٔ دشوارتر می‌رسد: انسان‌ها خوشبختی می‌خواهند، اما بدن آسیب‌پذیر، نیروی طبیعت و رابطه با دیگران پیوسته رنج تولید می‌کنند. فرهنگ با قانون، دانش، هنر، کار و امکان زندگی مشترک از ما محافظت می‌کند، ولی همان نظم برای مهار میل جنسی و پرخاشگری از فرد چشم‌پوشی می‌خواهد. از نظر فروید این معاوضه حل‌شدنیِ کامل نیست؛ امنیت و همکاری جمعی به بهای بخشی از آزادی غریزی به دست می‌آید. انرژی مهارشده ممکن است در کار، هنر و اندیشه «والایش» یابد، اما پرخاشگری ناپدید نمی‌شود و رو به بیرون یا درون برمی‌گردد. هنگامی که اقتدار اجتماعی در روان درونی می‌شود، «فراخود» فرد را با احساس گناه مجازات می‌کند؛ حتی نیت پرخاشگرانه می‌تواند مانند عمل واقعی موجب عذاب وجدان شود. به همین دلیل پیشرفت تمدن لزوماً رضایت بیشتر نمی‌آورد و ممکن است احساس گناه و ناخشنودی را افزایش دهد. کتاب پاسخ سیاسی یا درمانی ساده نمی‌دهد و نظریه‌هایش را نباید با اجماع قطعی روان‌شناسی تجربی امروز یکی دانست؛ ارزش آن در صورت‌بندیِ تند و اثرگذارِ تعارض میان میل فردی، عشق، پرخاشگری، وجدان و زندگی جمعی است. نسخهٔ حاضر چاپ نخست گام نو در ۱۳۸۲، ترجمهٔ امید مهرگان، ۱۴۴ صفحه و شومیز رقعی با شابک 9789647387262 است. نام مترجم که در صفحهٔ قدیمی حذف شده بود از روی رکورد دقیق همین شابک بازگردانده شد.

Nakhooshayandi-haye Farhang (Civilization and Its Discontents) is the Persian edition of Das Unbehagen in der Kultur by Sigmund Freud, translated by Omid Mehrgan. Freud wrote the essay in 1929 and published it in 1930, late in his life, linking individual psychoanalysis to social theory. He begins with the question of religious or “oceanic” feeling and turns to a harder problem: human beings seek happiness, yet the vulnerable body, the power of nature and relationships with other people repeatedly produce suffering. Civilization protects us through law, knowledge, art, work and the possibility of communal life, but that same order demands renunciations in order to restrain sexuality and aggression. For Freud the bargain cannot be fully resolved; security and cooperation are purchased at the cost of some instinctual freedom. Restricted energy may be sublimated into work, art and thought, yet aggression does not disappear. It can be directed outward or turned inward. When social authority is internalized, the superego punishes the individual with guilt; even an aggressive intention can become as tormenting as an act. Civilizational progress therefore does not automatically bring greater satisfaction and may intensify guilt and unease. The book offers no simple political programme or clinical cure, and its theories should not be confused with settled consensus in contemporary empirical psychology. Its lasting force lies in the sharp formulation of a conflict among individual desire, love, aggression, conscience and collective life.
