قصه در «شهرک آرزو» میگذرد؛ شهرکی تازه که بر جای روستای قدیمی عدسکار ساخته شده است. مردی با لباس عجیب کنار خیابان پنج تخم درشت کدو را روی نازبالشی قرمز میچیند و ادعا میکند خوردن هر تخم، هوش خریدار را بیشتر میکند. آقا ماشاءالله نخستین کسی است که وسوسه میشود یکی از این تخمها را بخرد و همین معاملهٔ کوچک، مردم و روابط شهرک را به حرکت درمیآورد.
مهربان، جوانی که یکی از تخمها را میخورد، متوجه ساعت بزرگ و ازکارافتادهٔ شهرک میشود؛ ساعتی که مردم هر روز از کنار آن گذشتهاند بیآنکه واقعاً آن را ببینند. جستوجوی او روشن میکند این ساعت را سالها پیش پدربزرگ بازرگانش از آلمان آورده و بر بقایای برجوباروی قدیمی نصب کرده است. تلاش مهربان و خواهرش برای راهانداختن دوبارهٔ ساعت، پای شهردار، بانک، کاسبها و خانوادههای شهرک را به ماجرا باز میکند.
مرادی کرمانی از وعدهٔ سادهٔ «باهوششدن» قصهای دربارهٔ طمع، تبلیغ، خیال پیشرفت و ندیدن تاریخ نزدیک خود میسازد. طنز کتاب از گفتوگوهای روزمره و واکنشهای اغراقشدهٔ آدمها میآید، اما پشت شوخی پرسشی جدی قرار دارد: آیا هوش کالایی است که بتوان خرید، یا دیدن، پرسیدن و همکاریکردن شکل دیگری از داناییاند؟ زنان داستان نیز تماشاگر نیستند و در شکلگیری و پیشبرد رخدادها نقشی فعال دارند.
چاپ نخست کتاب در سال ۱۳۸۸ منتشر شد و بهسرعت به چاپهای بعد رسید. بیشتر رکوردهای همین شابک ۱۶۰ صفحه ثبت کردهاند؛ چاپ یازدهم ۱۶۲ صفحه دارد که میتواند حاصل صفحهآرایی متفاوت باشد. مشخصات این صفحه بر نسخهٔ نشر معین با شابک 9789641650300 و شمار رایج ۱۶۰ صفحه استوار است.

About Nazbalesh
Nazbalesh is a fantasy-inflected satirical novella by Houshang Moradi Kermani. Bibliographic records and Moin editions register the Persian title as the single word Nazbalesh. The visual spacing between its two components on the cover does not turn the official title into two separate words.
The story is set in Shahrak-e Arezoo, the “Township of Hope,” newly built where the old village of Adaskar once stood. A strangely dressed street seller arranges five large pumpkin seeds on a red cushion and claims that each seed will make its buyer more intelligent. Agha Mashallah is the first person tempted to buy one, and that small transaction begins to disturb the routines and relationships of the township.
Mehraban, a young man who eats one of the seeds, notices the township’s large broken clock—an object the residents pass every day without truly seeing. His search reveals that his merchant grandfather brought the clock from Germany and installed it on the remains of an old tower. Mehraban and his sister’s effort to restart it draws the mayor, the bank, shopkeepers and families into the story.
Moradi Kermani turns the simple promise of “becoming clever” into a story about greed, advertising, fantasies of progress and a community’s blindness to its nearby history. The humour grows from everyday speech and exaggerated social reactions, yet a serious question sits beneath it: is intelligence something one can buy, or do attention, questioning and cooperation constitute a different kind of knowledge? The women are not passive observers; they actively shape and advance the events.
The first edition appeared in 1388/2010 and moved quickly into further printings. Most records under this ISBN list 160 pages, while the eleventh printing has 162, probably because of different typesetting. This page follows the common 160-page record for the Moin edition under ISBN 9789641650300 and discloses the variation.
