در بخش نخست، خواننده با چهرهای داستانی از عمر خیام (Omar Khayyam)، شاعر، ریاضیدان و ستارهشناس ایرانی، همراه میشود. رباعیات خیام (Omar Khayyam)، دربار سلجوقی و حضور خواجه نظامالملک و حسن صباح زمینهٔ روایتی را میسازند که تاریخ، اندیشه، قدرت و عشق را درهم میآمیزد. دستنوشتهای که رباعیات در آن گرد آمده، به قلب ماجرا تبدیل میشود.
بخش دوم ماجرای بنجامین عمر لساژ، روزنامهنگار آمریکایی، را دنبال میکند؛ مردی که در جستوجوی همان نسخه به ایران میآید و درگیر تحولات انقلاب مشروطه میشود. سرنوشت دستنوشته سرانجام با سفر کشتی تایتانیک گره میخورد و فاصلهٔ چند قرن را به یک خط داستانی واحد بدل میکند.

About Samarkand
Samarkand is a historical novel by Amin Maalouf (امین معلوف) that connects Iran’s past with a compelling story about the fate of a precious manuscript. Maalouf unfolds the narrative across two periods: eleventh-century Persia and the turbulent world of the early twentieth century.
In the first part, readers meet a fictionalised Omar Khayyam (عمر خیام), the Persian poet, mathematician, and astronomer. Khayyam’s quatrains, the Seljuk court, and the presence of Nizam al-Mulk and Hassan-i Sabbah create a narrative in which history, ideas, power, and love intersect. The manuscript containing the Rubaiyat becomes the heart of the story.
The second part follows Benjamin Omar Lesage, an American journalist who travels to Iran in search of that manuscript and becomes caught up in the Constitutional Revolution. The manuscript’s fate is eventually linked to the voyage of the Titanic, joining events separated by centuries into one story.
This Persian edition is translated by Mohammad Ghazi (محمد قاضی) and published by Elmi va Farhangi Publications as a 435-page paperback in Roqei format.
