«شب هزار و یکم» نوشته بهرام بیضایی (Bahram Beyzaie) از سه نمایشنامه تکپردهای همنام و پیوسته تشکیل شده است؛ سه پرده که رد دگرگونی «هزار و یک شب» را از اسطوره ایرانی تا ترجمه و خواندن آن دنبال میکنند. اثر نخستینبار در ۱۳۸۲ منتشر شد و این چاپ نشر روشنگران و مطالعات زنان با شابک 9789646751828 ثبت شده است.
پرده نخست، روایت گمشده ضحاک را از زاویه شهرناز و ارنواز بازمیسازد؛ زنانی که با قصهگویی، کشتار جوانان را به تعویق میاندازند. پرده دوم سرگذشت مترجمی ایرانی را در فضای خلافت عباسی به نمایش میگذارد و به مسئله انتقال و مصادره فرهنگی میپردازد. پرده سوم در خانهای متأخرتر رخ میدهد؛ روشنک برخلاف خرافه منع زنان از خواندن «هزار و یک شب»، کتاب را میخواند و خود به شهرزادی تازه بدل میشود.

About The Thousand and First Night
The Thousand and First Night (شب هزار و یکم) by Bahram Beyzaie consists of three connected one-act plays with the same title. Together they trace transformations of the One Thousand and One Nights from Iranian myth through translation and later acts of reading. First published in 2003, this Roshangaran and Women’s Studies edition carries ISBN 9789646751828.
The first play reconstructs a lost version of the Zahhak myth through Shahrnaz and Arnavaz, who postpone the killing of young men by telling stories. The second follows an Iranian translator in the Abbasid court and examines cultural transfer and appropriation. The third takes place in a later household, where Roshanak defies a superstition forbidding women to read the Nights and becomes a new Scheherazade.
Bahram Beyzaie combines myth, history and theatre-within-theatre to question ownership of stories, the erasure of women’s names and survival through narration. This 110-page paperback will particularly interest readers of Iranian drama, mythology and cultural historiography.
