معمای هویدا | عباس میلانی

«معمای هویدا» زندگی و دوران امیرعباس هویدا، نخست‌وزیر بلندمدت دوره پهلوی، را بر پایه اسناد، گفت‌وگوها و روایت‌های تاریخی بررسی می‌کند. عباس میلانی از سال‌های شکل‌گیری شخصیت هویدا تا قدرت‌گرفتن، رابطه‌اش با محمدرضا شاه و سرانجام بازداشت و اعدام او پس از انقلاب را دنبال می‌کند.

این زندگی‌نامه هم‌زمان تصویری از سازوکار قدرت، برنامه‌های نوسازی، اقتدارگرایی و بحران‌های منتهی به انقلاب ۱۳۵۷ ارائه می‌دهد. نویسنده به‌جای یک داوری ساده، تناقض‌های شخصیتی و سیاسی هویدا را در متن تاریخ معاصر ایران می‌سنجد.

“The Persian Sphinx” examines the life and political era of Amir Abbas Hoveyda, the long-serving prime minister under the Pahlavi monarchy, through documents, interviews and historical testimony. Abbas Milani follows Hoveyda from his formative years to his rise to power, relationship with Mohammad Reza Shah, and eventual arrest and execution after the revolution.

The biography also offers a portrait of political power, modernisation, authoritarian rule and the crises that culminated in the 1979 Iranian Revolution. Rather than reducing its subject to a simple verdict, Milani considers Hoveyda’s personal and political contradictions within modern Iranian history.
