«سووشون» مشهورترین رمان سیمین دانشور (Simin Daneshvar) و یکی از آثار ماندگار داستاننویسی معاصر ایران است. داستان در شیرازِ سالهای جنگ جهانی دوم و اشغال ایران به دست نیروهای متفقین میگذرد. زری میکوشد خانه و فرزندانش را از آشوب بیرون محفوظ نگه دارد، اما همسرش یوسف حاضر نیست محصول زمینهایش را در اختیار نیروهای اشغالگر و همدستان محلی آنان بگذارد.
دانشور از خلال زندگی یک خانواده، فشار سیاسی، قحطی، فساد و مقاومت را به تجربهای ملموس تبدیل میکند. زاویه دید نزدیک به زری، تغییر او را از زنی نگرانِ امنیت خانه به شخصیتی آگاهتر و مقاوم دنبال میکند. نام رمان به آیین سوگ سیاوش اشاره دارد؛ مرگ یوسف و سوگواری پس از آن، این الگوی اسطورهای را با تاریخ معاصر پیوند میزند.
رمان نخستین بار در ۱۳۴۸ منتشر شد و بهعنوان نخستین رمان منتشرشده به قلم یک زن ایرانی شناخته میشود. نسخه حاضر چاپ جلد سخت نشر خوارزمی با شابک 9789644870057 و ۳۰۷ صفحه است. عنوان رایج انگلیسی اثر Savushun است و ترجمه انگلیسی آن با عنوان A Persian Requiem نیز منتشر شده است.

About Savushun
Savushun is Simin Daneshvar’s best-known novel and a landmark of modern Persian fiction. Set in Shiraz during the Second World War and the Allied occupation of Iran, it follows Zari as she tries to protect her home and children from the disorder outside. Her husband Yusof, however, refuses to sell the harvest from his estates to the occupying forces and their local collaborators.
Through one family’s life, Daneshvar makes political pressure, scarcity, corruption and resistance immediate and personal. The narrative remains close to Zari, tracing her movement from anxious guardian of domestic safety to a more politically conscious and resolute figure. The title invokes the mourning ritual for the mythic prince Siyavash; Yusof’s death and the grief that follows connect that ancient pattern with modern Iranian history.
First published in 1969, the work is widely recognised as the first published novel by an Iranian woman. This Khwarazmi hardback edition has 307 pages and ISBN 9789644870057. Savushun is the established romanised title; an English translation has also appeared as A Persian Requiem.
