Ettefagh is a novel by Goli Taraghi, edited by Mojdeh Daghighi and published by Niloufar. This listing is for the physical book in Persian. It follows Shadi and Nader, twins whose close relationship begins in childhood.
Shadi and Nader find separate paths
Nader leaves for the United States to study, bringing distance into the twins’ lives. As a result, both must find their way towards independence. Moving between Iran and America, the story explores how unforeseen events redirect a life. However, the story also makes room for the possibility of carrying on.
Language and editing
In an interview about this novel, the editor explains that the author rewrote the manuscript several times. She describes her own contribution chiefly as making the text consistent and correcting errors. Her account offers a useful view of the care taken over the writing.
In her 2009 Bita Prize acceptance lecture, the author reflected on living and writing between cultures. The published lecture provides context for her literary concerns. The prize recognised the author, rather than this novel.
