About The Birth of Israel — Volume One
The Birth of Israel by صادق زیباکلام (Sadegh Zibakalam) is a historical project on the roots of Israel’s formation. This product is the first volume. Across eight chapters, it traces Jewish history from accounts of Abraham’s migration and settlement in Canaan through the ancient kingdoms, the destruction of Jerusalem and the Roman suppression of Jewish revolts in 135 CE.
To address the question of Israel’s emergence, the author does not begin in the twentieth century. He emphasises the long history of Judaism, dispersion and historical connections to Palestine. The project’s second volume continues from 135 CE through the rise of Zionism and the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, so the scope of this volume should not be confused with that later part.
