«نخل» رمانی برای نوجوانان و بزرگسالان از هوشنگ مرادی کرمانی (Houshang Moradi Kermani) است. مراد، پسرکی یتیم، پس از ازدستدادن پدر و مادرش در سیل با خاله و شوهرخالهاش در روستایی سردسیر زندگی میکند. ورود درویشی جهاندیده و کاشتن هستهٔ خرما، امیدی ناممکن را وارد زندگی او میکند: اگر هسته سبز شود، نخل از آنِ مراد خواهد بود.
در آبوهوایی که هیچ نخلی در آن دیده نمیشود، مردم روستا باور مراد را مسخره میکنند؛ اما او هر روز از هسته مراقبت میکند. خشکسالی درختان گردوی روستا را تهدید میکند، فقر راه انتخاب را بر بزرگترها میبندد و مراد سرانجام همراه مردی شهری و کامیونی پر از چوب درختان بریده راهی شهر میشود. دیدن نخلستان واقعی و چشیدن خرما، خیال کودکانهٔ او را با جهان بیرون روبهرو میکند.
مرادی کرمانی افسانه، رسمهای روستایی، طنز ظریف و دشواری زندگی در حاشیهٔ کویر را کنار هم میگذارد. نخل در این داستان هم درختی واقعی است و هم نشانهای از تفاوت، امید، ریشهگرفتن و نیاز کودک به دیدهشدن. جستوجوی مراد برای یافتن خانوادهٔ گلرخ نیز مسیر تازهای به سوی تعلق و محبت باز میکند.

Nakhl, internationally known through its published English title The Date Palm, is a novel for young adult and adult readers by Houshang Moradi Kermani. Morad is an orphan whose parents died in a flood. He now lives with his aunt and uncle in a cold village where no date palms grow. When a well-travelled dervish plants a date stone and promises that the tree will belong to Morad if it sprouts, the boy begins tending a possibility everyone else regards as absurd.
The villagers mock his faith, yet Morad returns to the seed every day. Drought threatens the village walnut trees, poverty constrains the adults’ choices, and a journey toward the city in a truck loaded with felled timber expands the boy’s understanding of the world. Seeing a real palm grove and tasting a date brings his imagined tree into contact with lived experience.
Moradi Kermani combines oral tale, village custom, gentle humour and the hard material realities of life near the desert. The palm is both a living tree and an image of difference, hope, taking root and a child’s need to be seen. Morad’s search for Golrokh’s family also opens another path toward belonging and affection.
