«ناطور دشت» ترجمهٔ فارسی رمان The Catcher in the Rye نوشتهٔ جی. دی. سلینجر (J. D. Salinger) است. این نسخه با ترجمهٔ احمد کریمی (Ahmad Karimi) و از سوی شرکت انتشارات علمی و فرهنگی منتشر شده است. احمد کریمی نخستین ترجمهٔ فارسی شناختهشدهٔ این رمان را در سال ۱۳۴۵ با همکاری مؤسسهٔ فرانکلین منتشر کرد و عنوان ماندگار «ناطور دشت» را برگزید.
هولدن کالفیلد، راوی شانزدهسالهٔ داستان، پس از اخراج از مدرسهٔ شبانهروزی پنسی سه روز را پیش از بازگشت به خانه در نیویورک میگذراند. او از هتل، بارها، خیابانها، دوستان قدیمی و آدمبزرگهایی میگوید که بسیاری از آنان را متظاهر میداند؛ اما روایت تند، خندهدار و گاه متناقضش بهتدریج تنهایی، سوگ برادرش الی و ترس او از تغییر را آشکار میکند.
هولدن آرزو میکند «ناطور» یا نگهبان کودکانی باشد که در دشتی از چاودار بازی میکنند و پیش از سقوط از پرتگاه آنان را بگیرد. این تصویر از بدشنیدن یک مصرع رابرت برنز شکل میگیرد و به هستهٔ عاطفی رمان بدل میشود: میل هولدن به حفظ معصومیت، حتی وقتی خودش نمیتواند از بزرگشدن بگریزد. رابطهٔ او با خواهر کوچکترش فیبی، صادقانهترین پیوند داستان و یکی از مهمترین راههای فهم این آرزوست.
رمان از زبان خود هولدن و پس از رویدادها، در حالی روایت میشود که او برای درمان و استراحت از زندگی روزمره دور شده است. لحن محاورهای، تکرارها، اغراقها و فاصلهٔ میان حرف و احساس، هولدن را به راویای زنده اما کاملاً قابلاعتمادنبودنی تبدیل میکند. کتاب بیش از آنکه صرفاً ماجرای یک نوجوان سرکش باشد، دربارهٔ سوگ، سلامت روان، بیگانگی، طبقهٔ اجتماعی و دشواری پذیرفتن دنیای بزرگسالان است.

About The Catcher in the Rye
Natoor-e Dasht is the Persian translation of The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger. This edition is translated by Ahmad Karimi and published by the Scientific and Cultural Publishing Company. Karimi produced the first known Persian translation in 1345/1966–1967 with the Franklin publishing programme and established the enduring Persian title Natoor-e Dasht.
Holden Caulfield, the novel’s sixteen-year-old narrator, spends three days in New York before returning home after his expulsion from Pencey Prep. He moves through hotels, bars, streets, old acquaintances and encounters with adults he often condemns as phoney. His sharp, funny and contradictory account gradually exposes his loneliness, his grief for his brother Allie and his fear of change.
Holden imagines himself as the “catcher” or guardian who saves children playing in a field of rye before they fall over a cliff. The fantasy grows from his mishearing of a line by Robert Burns and becomes the novel’s emotional centre: Holden wants to preserve innocence even though he cannot avoid growing up himself. His relationship with his younger sister Phoebe is the story’s most candid bond and one of the clearest ways to understand that wish.
Holden tells the story after the events while he is away from ordinary life for treatment and rest. His colloquial voice, repetitions, exaggerations and gaps between what he says and what he feels make him vivid but not wholly reliable. The novel is therefore more than an account of a rebellious teenager; it examines bereavement, mental health, alienation, social class and the difficulty of accepting the adult world.
Ahmad Karimi’s translation has held an important place in the Persian history of the novel since its first publication in 1345. The Persian word natoor means a keeper or watchman of a garden or field, and the title also echoes a literary use in Saadi’s Bustan.
