Afifi opens with an account of Ibn Arabi’s life, intellectual character and method before turning to the principal ideas and conceptual structure of the text.
This is not a word-by-word commentary on every passage. It highlights themes including the unity of being, the relationship between God and the cosmos, divine manifestation, the Divine Names and the place of the human being, while explaining selected linguistic and philosophical difficulties. Its deliberate return to key concepts helps readers see how the individual chapters of the Fusus relate to the wider school of Ibn Arabi.
